A Few Favorites

Good lordy it's been quite a while since I've written a favorites post. I was thinking about this the other day, and it stuck me because the last time I did a true favorites post was back in 2016. That baffles my mind. I think I sort of fell out of love with creating favorites content (partially because it's a common topic) but also because I got stuck in a sort of rut. I have a tendency to use the same products, wear the same kinds of clothes, and eat the same kinds of things when I get into a rut like this. I lose my drive to try new things -- I become desperate for a type or routine and a sense of normalcy -- but that gets stale and boring. It's then that I begin to feel myself needing change. Once that feeling occurs, I usually do something drastic to force a new cycle of change that will hopefully keep me motivated to keep trying and doing more things. The drastic thing that got me out of my current rut was a new haircut (I feel like a solid mix between a twelve year old, a soccer mom and Lily Collins) and I feel like it's really done it's job. I feel a lot more motivated, and I actually have a desire to push myself to do new things.

I managed to create a little list of some of the things I've been loving a lot over the past few weeks and were so many, I had to narrow it down to only a few! I picked out a couple beauty favorites, a few fashion favorites and then two kind of random favorites.

Beauty:

Lorac Pro Palette
In my post, My Changing Relationship To Makeup, I wrote about how I made a subconcious decision to buy less makeup in 2017. I achieved that goal, and managed to only buy one eyeshadow palette during the course of the year. This was a big difference from the amount I was buying in previous years, soI am quite proud of myself for accomplishing it. This year, I have a similar goal, but I might be a bit more lenient. I purchased the Lorac Pro Palette in January, in the mindset that this may be my only eyeshadow palette for 2018. I picked it carefully because I wanted something quite diverse, and also wearable for pretty much every occasion. This palette is definitely a neutrals palette, which I find I usually get more bang for my buck with. Every color is extremely wearable, but there a still a few that are a bit ore out there so you get a bit if diversity. The shadows themselves are extremely pigmented, and have great color payoff. They are a wee bit powdery, but not to the point where it's unbearable. Give you brush a little tap tap before you apply and you're golden.

Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear
I already did a whole post on this product because warranted it. If you want the whole shabang for a review, I suggest reading that (...go read it...) but I'll also give you the shirt and sweet version of it right now. Basically, Rihanna is a gift sent from above to give us not only great music but a damn good makeup line. Seriously this foundation is a godsend. I've worn it literally everyday since I bought it, and have had absolutely no problems. Buy. It.

Beautaniq Beauty Blush Serum
This blush was a hidden gem inside one of my Birchboxes. Usually the products I receive from my Birchbox subscription are good, but every once in a while I get a truly standout product. The entirety of the beauty community fell head over heels for the Glossier Cloud Paints, and even thought I have yet to try the actual products, I now understand the formula hype. The boom of more liquidy creme blushes now finally makes sense to me because they're so easy to use and they products a lot of pigmentation with a minimal amount of product. I've also found that using this type of blush allows the product to last on y face for a longer period of time, which in my book is always a plus. The color of this product itself is a tad bit brighter than I'm used to wearing, but I think it will be absolutely perfect for when the spring and summer months roll around. I'm toying with the idea of purchasing one of the Glossier Cloud Paints (let's be real, I'm dying to try one) and maybe do a contrasting post between the two similar products. Thoughts?

Fashion:

Calvin Kline Glasses
I am a religious contact wear. From the second I wake up, until right before I go to bed, I wear my contacts. The only time my glasses ever really see the light of day is when my eyes are so tired they can't handle my contacts, but as of late, I've been trying to wear them more. For the longest time I had such a stigma about how I looked in my glasses but now I just genuinely don't care. I've gotten a bit better at picking glasses that I like that also suit my face (my first dozen pairs did NOT) and therefore have felt a but more comfortable wearing them out and about. I recently picked this new pair of Calvin Kline frames, which I absolutely adore. They are very large (rocking that late 80's, early 90's vibe) and are kind of that geek chic look. The frames are a dark purply brown tortoiseshell with little flecks of a light pinky. They also have gold hardware, which I think gives them a little bit more of a luxury vibe.

Blink Flatform Sneaker
I've all of the sudden gotten really into flatform shoes and I have no reason behind it. It's a small obsession that sprung out of no where, and I don't really know what to do with it. I mean, other than purchase a bunch of flatform shoes, but I don't think my bank account will like that. My roommate actually has a pair of white flatform shoes, so I kind of got the idea from her. I found this pair on the ASOS website, and they were on sale, so buying them was pretty much a given.

Alex and Ani Horn Necklace
This was a blogger purchase through and through. I've seen so many people with these types of necklaces and I wanted one! It's not that often that I seriously want to jump onto the bandwagon, but with this piece of jewelry, it was more so a need than a want. When it comes to jewelry, I prefer a very small and simplistic style. Anything large and chunky just looks weird on me, and I've mad my peace with that. I wear small earrings, thin bracelets, and tiny necklaces. This is actually on of the large necklaces I own, but it's so pretty so I made an exception. The pendant itself is made of 14k gold, and Stirling silver, and therefore is amazing quality. I've worn it nonstop for almost two months and I've had no problems with it tarnishing. The chain itself is adjustable, which I think is genius because it allows you to wear it as a short necklace closer the the middle of your sternum, or a longer necklace that falls at the boobs.

Others:

Tazo Passion Tea
For years I was strictly a black tea drinker. I really didn't like other teas, and honestly I was completely ok with that. Just give me a black tea with a bit of lemon and I"m happy. I still do love my black tea, but I've begun branching out a bit more. Oh la la . After much trial and error, I landed on passion tea. It's pretty strong if you let the bag continue to step, but it's not so strong that it'll know you over. It blends together hibiscus flowers, orange peel, rosehips, cinnamon, lemongrass, natural tropical flavors, citric acid, licorice and red poppy. I copied that from the description. I don't even know what red poppy tastes like, but this tea tastes great so okay, I'm here for red poppy.

Headphone and Charging Splitter
If you have an iPhone 7 or higher, this little device is a must have. Because the Apple overlords made the (dumb) decision to get rid of the headphone jack, listening to music through normal headphones and charging your phone at the same time was no longer possible. But it is now. Of course if the had just kept the headphone jack this wouldn't be necessary but moving on... A splitter! Wow! Imagine that. Stick your headphones in and your charger. Bingo, bango, magic. Music and 100% battery.

What are some of the things you've been loving lately?
